Don Johnson cemented his legacy in blackjack history by winning $15 million in a six-month span that nearly crippled one casino, and got their CEO fired. Seeing as how Johnson made himself such a rich man in a relatively short amount of time, blackjack players everywhere want to know about the strategy he used to accumulate the millions.
After Johnson finished his amazing run by winning $5.8 million off the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City, he told reporters that he's not a card counter. Apparently, the Tropicana CEO didn't think he was a counter either, and gave the okay for Johnson to place bets as high as $100,000. But this came back to bite him in the end as Johnson made millions of dollars in just a 12-hour session.
Despite his admission that he's not a counter, nor is there any special strategy at work, people are still desperate to know how Johnson made so much money playing blackjack. Unfortunately, the details on Johnson's seemingly incredible blackjack casino strategy are fairly sketchy since he only had this to offer after winnings tons of money off of the casinos:
I’ll take luck over any other skill. There’s no magic to this. Eventually, someone would whack them. I’m just glad it was me. They (the house) beat most people in the long run because the average person won’t have the bankroll. But I have my own bankroll. If you can take the swings, you’re going to win. You also have to understand the math.
Perhaps Johnson's success is the product of good bankroll management coupled with a smart betting strategy. Of course, if he isn't counting, then there's definitely some luck involved with the equation as well. Even still, that's not going to stop people from wondering how in the world he's made so much money with the game.
