Don Johnson was easily the biggest blackjack story of 2011 after he won over $17 million off casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. With these massive winnings, there's no question that Johnson was definitely the blackjack player of the year in 2011. Interestingly enough, Johnson has told the press that he'll be playing more blackjack in 2012, which will definitely be something worth watching out for.
The biggest victim of Don Johnson's huge run was the Tropicana Atlantic City, which lost almost $7 million to this blackjack expert. And it was after Johnson's $5.8 million profit at the Tropicana when everybody wanted to know what his blackjack strategy was.
We at BlackjackCastle have discussed this topic a lot in the past as well, and it's been said by Johnson before that he doesn't use card counting to win. Unfortunately, that's about all we've gotten from the man because he only gave vague hints about his strategy by saying, "They (the house) beat most people in the long run because the average person won’t have the bankroll. But I have my own bankroll. If you can take the swings, you’re going to win. You also have to understand the math."
The math behind basic blackjack strategy is that players are at a 0.5% disadvantage to the house. Fortunately, this is one of the smallest edges that you'll find in any casino game, and one that players can definitely beat in the long-term. However, this still doesn't explain anything about Don Johnson's blackjack strategy. He has been playing blackjack since the mid-1990's, so perhaps he knows something that other players don't?
It's hard to say, but maybe more will be revealed when Johnson hits the blackjack tables in 2012.
