Blackjack Rules

How to Play Blackjack

The first step to being a successful blackjack player is obviously understanding the rules. And online blackjack is the perfect place to learn rules because, unlike land-based casinos, you don’t have to wager any money while you’re learning the ropes. Instead, you can play free blackjack games and learn the rules as you go.

Now some people might say that you can just read about the rules before going to a casino. However, the problem with this is that it’s easy to forget a rule difference here or there in a casino setting. And if you have money on the line, there’s a chance that you could lose your bet by making a bad play due to misunderstanding blackjack rules.

Even if you are already an experienced blackjack player who knows the rules, you can still benefit greatly from playing free online blackjack games when you’re moving to a different variation. For example, if you’ve always wanted to play Spanish 21, you can just find a free Spanish 21 game, and play until you thoroughly understand the rules.

Assuming that you’ve never even heard of Spanish 21 and you just want to know the basic blackjack rules, here is a look at how to play classic blackjack (21):

- Blackjack rounds begin when the player has placed a bet on the table. The dealer then deals two face-up cards to each player, and deals their self a face-up card and a face-down card.

- Players then decide whether to hit (ask for another card; you can keep asking until you choose to stand or go over 21), stand (keep your current hand total), double down (double the bet, and receive one more card), and split (split your hand into two hands; cards must be of equal value, and players only receive one more card with aces).

- The goal of these actions is to beat the dealer’s hand without going over 21. If your score total does go over 21, you “bust” out of the hand and lose.

- All cards numbered 2-10 are worth their numerical value, while face cards are worth 10 points. An ace can be worth either 1 or 11 based on the player’s score total.
